During an unforgettable tribute concert, the Argentine singer and songwriter Diego Torres shared the stage with the legendary Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium for over 60,000 spectators
MIAMI (June 29, 2016) – On June 29, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium played host to the “Plácido en el Alma” (Plácido in the Soul) tribute concert to celebrate Plácido Domingo’s recent 75th birthday. The show paid tribute to his career, and to honor his role as a cultural ambassador of Spain.
Joining him for unforgettable performances were such renowned Iberoamerican artists as Diego Torres. Among other guest stars were Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, Fher (Maná), Pablo Alborán, and David Bisbal. Organizers also announced that proceeds from “Plácido en el Alma” will be donated to socio-sporting schools operated by the Real Madrid Foundation in Mexico to help disadvantaged youth.
Diego Torres, who received an ovation from the attendees, performed his signature hit “Color Esperanza” (Color Hope) with the Spanish singer María Rozalen. He also performed his recently released anthem “Iguales” (Equal). The song had the backing of the Madrid-based Philharmonic Choir and the Madrid Symphony Orchestra. With over 60,000 attendees, this sold-out concert will go down in history as one of the music’s most unforgettable events.
